ABOUT mimihali

We are two mothers and designers.

Sirpa has been designing for children her entire career. She grew up in Finland, where children start school at seven, because childhood is considered too valuable to rush. Making things with your hands is simply part of that, not an activity, but a way of thinking. Her own children are now grown, but they were raised making and building, an experience that shaped them into capable, independent thinkers.

Katie has children in the age group we design for, and she understands the frustrations of a modern mom. Between us, we see both sides. The long view of what holds up over time, and the daily reality of what actually works with young kids.

Mimihali began because most craft kits on the market rely on cheap plastic materials. We couldn't find things we respected. Too many were polyester-heavy, poorly designed, or so disposable they were thrown away almost immediately. The experience felt rushed and forgettable.

We wanted something better.

The goal is simple: to help children build fine motor skills, focus, and confidence while learning a practical skill they can carry forward.

Mimihali designs and assembles complete beginner sewing and embroidery kits for kids ages 6 and up. Our patterns are created with little hands in mind. Projects are small and achievable, using basic stitches and simple shapes so beginners can succeed. Materials are selected for how they cut, stitch, and last over time. Every pattern is refined through testing with kids before it becomes part of our collection.

We design in Finland and assemble every kit by hand in Maine. We choose premium natural materials that cut well, stitch well, and hold up. We refine every project until it feels achievable and satisfying for a beginner.

We pay attention to the things most kits ignore: the quality of the felt, the weight of the thread, the clarity of the instructions.

We make sewing and embroidery kits for families who value real materials, thoughtful design, and projects worth keeping.
